Your role and responsibilities:
Xanadu is seeking a Cryostat Technician to support our next-generation cryostats and ongoing low-temperature device development. In this role, you will ensure our cryogenic platforms are robust, scalable, and mission-ready. You will collaborate closely with the low-temperature devices, hardware operations, and packaging teams to support a high volume of device analysis while providing operational support for our existing platforms.
With your technical expertise and hands-on experience with cryostats and related low-temperature technologies, you will play a key role in supporting the daily operations and performance testing of our detector systems necessary for our quantum architecture. This role requires a practical approach to low-temperature engineering and a proven ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment.
You will assist in the assembly, testing, maintenance, and routine operation of large-scale cryostat systems. Responsibilities include:

This is for a new position. Your base salary will be determined based on your location, experience, and internal benchmarks. The base salary range is 90,000 - 120,000 CAD. You will also be eligible for equity and benefits.

You will assist in the assembly, testing, maintenance, and routine operation of large-scale cryostat systems. Responsibilities include:
- Support the assembly, setup, and testing of new cryostats for photon detector systems
- Operate and assist in testing cryogenic systems (e.g., He-4 evaporator-based), performing routine maintenance, performance logging, and troubleshooting
- Work with cryogenic liquid and gas systems to achieve optimized cooling requirements
- Assist in the maintenance and operation of large-scale cryogenic facilities to ensure safe and efficient gas/liquid recovery
- Collaborate closely with scientific and engineering teams to support ongoing detector characterization and testing
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, Technical/Engineering Technology diploma, or a closely related field with 2–3 years of hands-on cryogenics experience.
- Practical experience assembling, testing, or assisting with cryostat operations
- CAD and experience for mechanical part design or 3D printing (e.g. Solidworks)
- Hands-on experience operating cryostats, including cooldowns, troubleshooting, and maintenance
- Knowledge and experience with high vacuum systems for cryogenic use
- Liquid cryogen handling and distribution experience
- Self-motivated, comfortable working both independently and collaboratively with people of all disciplines on complex projects in a fast-paced environment
- Detail-oriented with positive attitude towards work
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
Preferred Knowledge and Experience:
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in a cryogenic laboratory or industrial environment
- Hands-on experience with silicon chip handling and mounting
- Experience with fiber handling and routing
- Experience writing Python code
